Student’s Sessions (Ages 13 – 17)

Participants of all levels and abilities are welcome. There will be individual one-on-one instruction as well as group learning.  Sessions will run for 2 hours one day each week for 2 weeks.  Over the course of the sessions, students will learn about colour theory, abstract and representational art, elements and principles of design like repetition, composition, balance, harmony, focal point and perspective. We will work with guache, acrylics, watercolours, chalk and oil pastels and/or willow charcoal on a variety of surfaces like canvas, watercolour paper, mixed media boards. Participants will be able to take home the zoo and explore the jungle through art with animal-inspired art.  Inspiration may come from the vibrant colours used by artists like Jackson Pollock, Henri Matisse, the Fauves. Work will be done around scenes of nature such as those used by the Group of Seven, Emily Carr, and other Canadian artists. Sessions devoted to still life, portraits, caricatures, superheroes, Disney characters will enhance the lives of all young people.  Over the duration of the course, students will learn about and experiment with a variety of techniques, styles and procedures, as they explore their own individual creativity.
